There are several ways/options to cash a new check depending on what hardware you have installed. Each option has its own in-depth section of this chapter. All options are explained using the Cash New Check button in the icon toolbar. However, it is possible (and used more often) to cash a check through the Customer Listing window. The process will be the same as if you used the Cash New Check button with the exception of the initial step. When using the Cash New Check button, the program still needs to identify who the customer is. Therefore, its initial step will ask for either the customer's Social Security Number, ID number, or fingerprint. By accessing the cash new check process through the customer listing window, the program already knows who the customer is. Therefore, its initial step will be Step 1 - Verify Customer Information. For complete details on cashing a check with the different hardware options, please see the section of this chapter that pertains to what hardware you have installed.

Using Fingerprint Reader and Check Scanner

An ID scanner is not used directly in the cash new check process. The bar code or magnetic strip readers may be used to search for a customer in the Customer Listing window. If the customer is found, you may then begin the cash new check process using the Cash Check button in the lower right of the Customer Listing window. If the customer was not found, you will have the option to then add the customer. The optical ID scanner can only be used to add customers through the Customer Listing window. This one does not have the ability to search for customers. For complete details on these ID scanners and the Customer Listing window, please see the Customer Listing chapter.
